The Captivating Doll Collection

This body of work spans two years of my artist-in-residence at the University of Chester, during which I explored my long-standing fascination with the doll and its role in shaping and conditioning us in childhood, and in how it comes to symbolise the deep and difficult feelings that linger into adulthood.

Why I chose to create work about dolls is a question I am often asked and I must admit, I have no definitive answer only to say that for me, the doll has the capacity to be the catalyst, to ignite the imagination and to inspire fantastical storytelling.

It is essentially a vessel for emotional attachment that has no capacity for cruel indifference or rejection and so, it is whatever the owner wants it to be.
